4 Tips to Get Your Skin Raya-Ready

Raya is so near that you can practically smell your grandma’s mouth watering cooking. I’m sure you’re excited to go home to celebrate, indulge in good food, dress up in your best outfits and make wonderful memories with your loved ones.

Since Hari Raya takes place only once a year, it’s no surprise that you want to look your absolute best, especially since you will be immortalised in the family photos and countless Insta-stories. But before we get to painting the canvas that is your skin, let’s not forget to pamper, nourish and hydrate it at least one week in advance, so that your complexion is glowing and ‘ayu’ come Raya.

1. Drink lots of water

Although this one isn’t part of a skincare routine, drinking at least 2 litres of water per day is vital to your skin’s health and beauty from the inside out. It’s one of the easiest beauty treatments you can do. Water increases your skin’s elasticity thus reducing wrinkles and fine lines. Drinking more water will also reduce water retention and puffiness on your face. The more water you drink, the more balanced the oil and water on the surface of your skin, meaning your pores will get smaller. Are you convinced? The week leading up to Raya, please drink more water.

2. Amp up your skincare

The week leading up to Raya, you should start taking extra care of your skin. Exfoliating it twice a week can literally remove dead skin cells to reveal a glowing and smooth complexion. Also consider using a facial mist to spritz on your face every few hours to hydrate and refresh it. This is especially helpful if you spend most of your time in an air conditioned environment, as that can easily dry out your face. Don’t forget to remove your makeup and wash your face daily too!

3. Mask, mask, mask!

A sheet mask a day, is indeed the secret to plump skin because hydrated skin looks less dull, flaky and tired. Use a sheet mask every night after cleansing and toning your face, then continue on with your usual skincare routine. 4. Get your brows done early

Well groomed brows are essential for every woman. Make sure you do not, and I repeat DO NOT, get your brows done the day before or even 5 days before Raya, especially if you’re not used to getting your brows tweezed, threaded or waxed. This is because the skin around your brows will be extremely sensitive, pink, slightly swollen and maybe even scabbing a bit. Your makeup won’t be able to stick to the damaged areas and it might be painful to apply your usual skincare on that area. Do your brows at least 1 week before Raya so that they can heal and recover in time!
